If they were assassinated at the same time, then Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the House) would take over. If the president only was assassinated, then Dick Cheney would take over and appoint a new Vice President. Then that Vice President would take over if some thing happened to Cheney.

The answer can be found in the 25th amendment...if the two top dogs were killed at the same time or what have you, the speaker of the house would become president, next in line would be the president tempore of the senate...

Cheney would be president if Bush died or was impeached. If Cheney died or was impeached as well, the office would go to Nancy Pelosi (Speaker of the House).
