first of all... this in my opinion has to be the greatest rock song ever..please give me your interpretation of the song...i know this has probably been said a million times before... but do u think that the whole backmasked thing is real or just a coincidence..

I think it's real, cz firstly they were in alister crowley's mansion while writing the song... plant said he had this uncontrollable urge and just began writing.. plus.. the May Queen is a poem written by alister crowley.. the led zeppellin fallen angel fits in in this context...

but in my opinion the biggest sign is when robert plant says "coz u know sometimes words have two meanings"

also... since there isn't any definite meaning for the song.. doesn't it in one way make sense?

"there are two path's you can go by...

I'v always thought the same thing... but somehow i get the impression that it wasn't intentional ... ya knw? like plant said he just suddenly gt this urge and started writing... so maybe it was a coincidence in one sense because of where they were.(i.e. crowley's mansion).. but it is pretty obvious that there is a hidden message.. and it has to be the clearest from all the ones iv heard

It's my favorite song, but I don't think it should be considered the greatest song ever. There are a couple better songs you know. But regardless, I do think it should rank high enough to be somewhere around the fifty greatest songs of all-time, and maybe the twenty greatest rock songs of all-time.

But regarding the the backmasked message, I don't think it's real. I keep hearing it and hearing it over and over again, but I can barely hear anything. Maybe a few Satanic words, true, but the rest doesn't make sense at all. I think it's all just a coincidence.

Plus, I think some guy said that most people would actually notice the message after they were told so.

I think it's all stupid. Why the hell would Led Zeppelin do that?

I think it could go either way. I know the band has always denied it, but its just one of those things that you want to believe isn't a coincidence, because that would make it dull. Personally I think out of all the backmasking accusations aimed at various artists through the years, the Stairway one is probably one of the few instances where the backmasking is real and not merely coincidence.

It has to be considered one of the greatest rock songs since it usually is the #1 entry on all those top 100 lists. When I was in college, a friend of mine insisted that "Stairway to Heaven," when played backwards, had a message to the devil. Since those were the days of turntables, she and I listened about 20 times to the song backwards. She kept saying to me "there it is, don't you hear it?" and I responded that I couldn't hear squat other than the weird way music and lyrics sound when they're played backwards. (Unlike the Beatles "Revolution Number 9," which clearly repeats over and over "turn me on, dead man"). In any event, at a live aid concert some years ago, Robert Plant described "Stairway" as a "song about hope." Perhaps that's all it was meant to be.

I love the song, but those guys were so damn drugged up throughout the whole creation of it that I seriously doubt there are any serious meanings to it except for the ones the listeners can dream up.

That's what makes the song good. It can mean something different to everybody.

He was trippin' man! What do you expect. He did have Crowley influence as well though. Back then everyone was searching for something to help life make sense.

I love this song. When my mom died I listened to it all the time after my mom Dad. It offers consolation. I believe what the words say. My interpretation is that we all have to go, but there is somewhere to go on the other side.
