How long do musicians usually take to compose a song?

Question

A song may be 3 or 4 minutes long.
But is that how long it takes to compose it? I doubt it.
Oh, and I mean mainly musicians such as Nelly Furtado, Shakira or other pop stars.

(And while at this, how long do they take to record their songs' videos?)

The ansewer to this question is as many&varied as the composers themsleves.some can do it in a hour or two,some in a few days,some,a week,a year,several years and...well,you get what I mean.There's no time constraint on the creative process

That really depends on the song and the artist. There are always those stories you hear about some now classic track being composed during a drugged out bus-ride. Others take months before the composer feels it's ready to record.

Anywhere from 20 minutes to six months to write a song, and they would hope video is usually ready to be shown before the song is released as a single, although that is not always the case.

'Classic' songs {1960's - 1970's} took anything from a few hours to a few years to make it from a notepad to a full, ready to record song.

Modern pop songs often aren't even written by the singers.
I noticed that Christina Aguilera's huge hit 'Beautiful' was the only song on that album that she HADN'T written!

Most of them are not musicians, only singers ~ they just go into the studio with a group of session musicians and someone else's lyrics.

they ask a producer to do it
