I'm a Democrat but have always admired John McCain -- he avoids the nastier divisive rhetoric and seems like an all-around reasonable guy. Plus, he's got 'war president' cred as a former POW. What happened to him, and how did he lose what little Republican support he had?

He came out in favor of the War in Iraq and for illegal immigrant amnesty.

I don't quite understand how you as a democrat could like someone like McCain. McCain is horribly elusive and has the stance on major national issues as does jello to a bowl. McCain says whatever is popular to say at the time and then takes no steps to retract when he makes contradictory statements. He wants to go war, he seems to revel in it. He comes from a state that didn't want to have MLK day as a holiday. Democrats, well Americans as a whole have failed and continue to fail to understand the ravages of war. Your admiration of McCain is baffling, there might as well be a new party called the DemReps, come on let's study our US history and get real about who we let run our country.

That's the problem: Too many Democrats admire him, and he is a little liberal for most of his party.

Seriously, McCain Feingold-a monster of his own making-did him in. He was weak on national defense, all but promising trial rights to terrorists, which Democrats want to give to our enemies so they can get good trial lawyers, be freed and bomb us again.

McCain was too much of a maverick, especially after 2000. If you want to vote for him, write him in when you go to the primaries. Of all the Democrat contenders, he is still the best. But we have better Republicans to vote for.

Consorting with the enemy (Ted Kennedy, Finegold, etal), "amnesty", and other such nefarious activities. McCain does not seem very focused in his beleifs, and even though a Viet Nam vetern and POW does not have the best interests of the USA at heart.

by way of fact the state and local government in New Orleans has greater on the grounds that then, it does not be the comparable subject it grew to become into whilst the state and local governments did no longer do their interest. kevinsnatchatori, how are you able to declare "solid"? Disgusting. Your answer is sick, wishful questioning as an Obama supporter. you're able to desire to be ashamed.

Its simple.

He lost his conservative base because he supported the amnesty bill.

He lost the moderate base because of his pro-"stay the course" Iraq war stance.

Only a few support him now, because he is a decent guy, just some of his policies suck.

It all happened when "Maverick John" forsook his personal priciples and jumped on board the George W. Bush War Train...He screwed up. Big time.
