Depends on the kind of lock and how neat you want to be about it.

Obviously, the best way is with the proper key or combination.

For simple pin tumbler locks you can use picks. For pick resistant locks it is often easiest to simply destroy the lock.

My uncle was a locksmith. There were certain cars that, if he got a call to open them, he would ask the caller if they say a rock nearby. If so, he would tell them, just smash the window. It would be less costly than calling him out.
