Hack Wilson on both counts. In 1930, he had 56 homeruns and 191 RBIs -- in only 154 games!

I'm with LS on the whole steroid issue.

As for the RBI record, it's held by Hack Wilson of the Cubs and he set the record in 1930.

The "pre-steroid" record for homers, I guess, would also belong to Wilson with 56, set in that same season of 1930.

Complaining about steroids records being legit is like complaining about how pitchers had a bigger mound and a bigger strike zone in the 60s (when they set a lot of marks). Hell in the early 1930s the ball was more juiced than it is today, thats why you had teams hitting over .300, and Hack Wilson with 191 RBIS. Oddly enough up until a few years ago it was only 190, but they re-researched it and credited him with another. Who knows, maybe in a few years he'll puch that mark to 200!
