My favorite place is make believe. It is the country place we were going to buy and where we were going to retire. It is in a neighboring county and has about 5 to 10 acres of rolling land with some of it in meadows and some lightly wooded. There is a traditional style two story house there rather larger than we need but it's what we always wanted but couldn't afford while the kids were at home. The house has large, comfortable porches on the front and back where we sip our morning coffee and take in spectacular sunsets. There's not much there in the way of livestock except for some ducks in the pond and some geese that act as "watch dogs" and some peacocks for a little touch of elegance. Of course we have some dogs and cats - couldn't do without them. Out in the back is my barn which is pretty big, much bigger than what I need but having done all my handyman chores in the grass in the backyard for years, it's what I want. In one corner is a workshop with all the tools and power tools I never had room for. Just past the barn is an area with a pretty tall fence. This is to keep the deer out of our big garden. This is where Mary will spend a lot of her time fussing with growing things. She really likes this sort of thing. This is my favorite place. It seems like it gets nicer and grander each time I go there and my visits seem to be happening more often now.

The Hawaiian island of Kauai. It is every bit the tropical paradise that you expect from Hawaii, but it's not nearly as heavily trafficked with tourists as Maui and it doesn't have a major city like Oahu (which in reality seems more like Miami). It's a wonderful place to go to get away from it all and relax. The people there are VERY friendly, there are plenty of things to see and do if you don't like laying on a beach or sunbathing by a pool, and the weather is pretty much the same year round -- it rains every day on Kauai, but along the coastal areas it usually rains very briefly and then the weather is beautiful for the rest of the day. If I could afford to live there I would move there in a heartbeat.

Paris was beautiful with a lot of culture but the people are a bit rude. Alaska is so beautiful but I couldn't get used to there being nearly 24 hours of daylight in the summer. I loved the castles and culture in Germany. The food was good. My mom and I followed my son to places he was deported to in the military.

Since I live in a small apartment I will have to give a dream place. I would like 10 acres in the country with a house for my parents too and plenty of toys and space for my grandchildren and a garden with a big pond and some woods.

The ocean, walking along the beach, wet sand squishing between your toes, waves breaking around your ankles, the briney smell of the ocean air, the treasures you find, the sun on your face, the wind in your hair, the spray cool on your skin, the ancient pulse of the sea, here since time began, the gulls so free, watching them ride the air currents, standing and looking out to sea, thinking of all the countries far away touched by the same ocean, the big open sky overhead, high puffy white clouds, watching the sail boats skimming before the wind -

To me its total and complete peace. Like being in church, you feel real close to God when there is just you and the sky and the ocean .. no troubles, no worries ...

Well, I have to say that I have been to enough places, at least in the US and Caribbean, that I can say HOME ! I have remodeled and landscaped to be all that the best of my travels had to offer. My yard, both front and back, are completely private, I have a large Koi pond with water falls, the yard is sectioned off with plantings to give several personal areas (like resorts do), I have a large swimming pool and spa in the back...everything is planted totally tropical, like a rain forest. I love being home. Unfortunately, I also like to travel, and ..... the worst thing about my home is that I cannot find anywhere else that is as sexy, beautiful to be in, comfortable, and peaceful...that sucks! Now, my vacations are limited to two or three days, for that is about as long as I want to "endure" a vacation.

Honolulu Hawaii. I'm planning to move there permanently in a little over three years. It's a place that appeals to my Pan-Pacific nature.
