I agree with the first and third answers. This is what I posted in answer to another question, but it got conveniently deleted.
"Humans didn't start affecting the atmosphere until the late 1700s during the beginning of the first Industrial revolution. At that time, machines were built that sent massive amounts of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide into the atmosphere for the first time. However, everything pumped into the atmosphere by man in the past 300 years has barely scratched the surface of significantly altering the atmosphere. There have been several global warmings and coolings in the history of Earth, and there has been evidence of the same on several other planets in our solar system. Since intelligent life has never existed on any other planets, the only possible way for this to have happened would be a natural cycle of the planets due to orbits, changing positions, massive sun flares, etc. In conclusion, it is completely idiotic and egotistical to think that humans are the only or main cause of global warming. So how do you flaming liberals explain global warmings on other planets? Is our evil, domineering nature spreading across the solar system? I'm guessing not."
Thanks for the question! :)

Milankovitch Cycles are part of the answer for major episodic Ice ages cycles..
However, these began ~ 2.5-3 million years ago (mya), and before then, the temperature was much higher and so was sea level. In fact, for about 90% of earth's history, temperatures were much warmer than today.
Now, what really is intriguing, is that we, as humans, didn't evolve from the primates until we entered this cooler period at 2.5-3 mya. Therefore, the favorabl eclimate, to us, is probably pertinent. Further, the earth seems to be prone to exceedingly long periods of above present warming. That, indeed, is the concern.

Don't you know? Scientific facts, Earth science and history have nothing to do with Global Warming. That is why the Global Warming enthusiasts focus on the future instead of looking in the past to find out information regarding the planet's weather patterns. Global Warming believers are people who failed Earth Science 101.

Al Gore should run for God. Then, if elected, he can banish all the conservatives to Hell and dig a hole the size of the Grand Canyon to bury all the cars and trucks in so there won't be any more emissions. All the liberals can ride around on bicycles hand-built out of materials he as God can create that won't have a byproduct spewing into the atmosphere as it is being manufactured.
(I meant this tongue-in-cheek to make a point, for those of you in Rio Linda.)

the passing of the ice ages took hundreds of thousands of years if not millions of years to take place -- flora and fauna (including our ancestors) had time to evolve and adapt. obviously lots didn't make it, but many did.
the human race has done more to warm the planet in 20 years than in the previous thousands of years. the change is so fast, and the rate of extinction so scary, that we threaten destabilizing entire ecosystems. it is in the interest of SURVIVAL that we need to address the fact and challenge of man-made global warming.

No one is arguing that the earth doesn't have it's own warming and cooling cycles. It does but now it also has a great big push from the human's pollution.
Our population is much greater now than it was in the 17th and 18th centuries and we have much more pollution going in to the air. More countries have cars now than at the beginning and middle of the 20th century; there is much more manufacturing, etc. How is that NOT going to have an effect on our earth??
And I guess my biggest concern is that those who debunk Global Warming are also totally unconcerned about what the condition of the earth will be after their lifetimes. If there is something we can do NOW to make the world better for future generations, shouldn't we do it?
Actually, Fallen, I got an A in Earth Science. How about the rest of you?

Any person who takes the time to form a rational opinion on Climate change will realize the earth is a complex system that goes through cycles of warming & cooling. All the electric cars & incandesent light bulbs used will not effect the outcome one bit!

I don't know about you but I think I have a right to see the information and sort it out myself. How will we know the truth if we're not allowed to see the evidence. http://www.thebluestate.com/2007/08/judge-orders-bu.html

Come on now, don't let facts like that cloud your judgement. Please also do not consider that all the other planets are experiencing similar warming trends.
It is all about control and wealth redistribution...
