Like how many seconds to chime midnight

This is a trick question. If it takes 6 seconds to chime 6 times, then the time between chimes is actually 6/5 of a second, i.e. 1.2 seconds (not 1 second, as you are tricked into believing).

This means the time it takes to chime midnight is 11*6/5, or 13.2 seconds.

Don't believe me?

6 o'clock chimes go like this:

bong 1 (6:00:00)
bong 2 (6:00:01.2)
bong 3 (6:00:02.4)
bong 4 (6:00:03.6)
bong 5 (6:00:04.8)
bong 6 (6:00:06)

i.e., exactly 6 seconds as specified, with 1.2 seconds between chimes. Therefore, the 12:00 chime goes like this:

bong 1 (12:00:00)
bong 2 (12:00:01.2)
bong 3 (12:00:02.4)
bong 4 (12:00:03.6)
bong 5 (12:00:04.8)
bong 6 (12:00:06)
bong 7 (12:00:07.2)
bong 8 (12:00:08.4)
bong 9 (12:00:09.6)
bong 10 (12:00:10.8)
bong 11 (12:00:12)
bong 12 (12:00:13.2)

So, 13.2 seconds for the 12:00 chimes

12 is wrong.

So many people fall for the easy answer.

The first chime happens at 0 seconds, the last one happens at 6 seconds, So the stopwatch starts on the first chime and stops 5 chimes later at 6 seconds.

SO the number of chimes is given by time is (Chimes-1)*(1.2s).

*** I love the way all of the wrong answers seem to start with "assuming". Anybody know the old expression about assuming??!!

(12-1)*(1.2s)=13.2 seconds

Since midnight = 12 and it takes 6 seconds to chime 6oclock, plus 12 is double of 6, so if it takes 6 secs to chime 6oclock, its gona take 12 secs for midnight! (tip: just double the seconds)
