They couldn't speak French, it would have upset Quebec, and a revolution would have broke out. The prime minister thought it would be best for the 4 of them to be born in the USA, as to prevent civil war and use all 4 hospital beds up during the civil war. It was a very genuine decision and he should be commended.

identical quadruplets are a one in 16 million chance. her birth was an emergency bith making it even more rare. There are 8 facilities in North America that can handle this procedure (2 in Canada, 6 in the US). The closest to her happened to be in the US. And she was covered no questions asked.

Canada gets it. Patient healthcare comes before profits.

Gee, maybe the population differential between the US and Canada could be a factor. You see, while they have coverage for all, being less populated means that the absolute resources are not equal between the two.

Do you think whether or not they had private insurance would determine the number of hospital beds?

The reason being our system is just as flawed as the United States.
It is my understanding there were no available beds in the maternity ward to handle the quadruplets.
I am curious though if they can apply for U.S. citizenship having been born there by Canadian parents.....?

America does have better facilities and more skilled doctors (imho) but that doesn't mean it's because of our privatized system... our Military is more advanced than theirs also... and it's a publicly funded system.. have you ever thought we have better technology just because we are more advanced and that it has nothing to do with the socialized/privatized debate?

They could have been born in a field in Somalia, they still would have been quadruplets. Why would someone want to become a Canadian citizen when they can be an American? Makes no sense.

Yes, there weren't enough beds for them. Besides, Canada is paying for this anyways.

For the hospitals to help assist in the birth in Canada, the mother would have had to have waited 3 years before giving birth.
