I heard Bush's appalling speech. Are there really still people who think we belonged in Vietnam?
Remember, Ho asked us to help him. He loved America, he loved democracy. He wanted the French the heck out of his country. Like any dignified free person would want.
But, we went in and fought on the side of enslaving those people. Of course the collaborators on our side were killed. Nazi collaborators faced a bad time, too.
My father in law volunteered three times for that wretched war. Then, he figured out he was being used. His reward: PTSD, Emphysemia from agent orange, and the sick knowledge that his fellow countrymen keep falling over and over for the propaganda, never once asking WHY ARE WE ACTUALLY DOING THIS?????
Bush loved the Vietnam War so much he even went AWOL from his national guard duty to work on political campaigns. Yes, Dan Rather's story had forged documents - but forgeries of the truth. Let's not forget no one disputes Bush was AWOL. And that his military records have been destroyed. how convenient.

His Vietnam allegory was well thought out in advance and reeks of Rove. By alluding to what happened in Vietnam after we left, which to be fair is entirely true, he is essentially saying "we don't want that to happen again so it would be best if we didn't leave at all." In other words, forget about why we are there, rather look at why we can't leave. It's a clever diversionary tactic, but I also think it will backfire. By invoking Vietnam he is also intriducing into the conversation the single most humilitaing and costly military defeat in our nation's history. In the end..not a smart move. But nothing in Bush's rhetoric is intended for smart people.

I wonder if they know this is a clear sign of not only lack of intelligence but a inferior complex on a huge scale .There immaturity to blame everything they can think of on are President that a 5 year old would be able to tell it's not the Truth! Liberals are so pathetic if I didn't like them I would actually feel sorry for them...

Though US soldiers did cruel things in Vietnam, it was not simple for the US to withdraw-there was a political and military threat from Communist countries during the Cold War. And North Vietnamese troops and Vietcong fighters brutally killed many people too.

Being a war hero is not a prerequisite for being president. Bush never claimed to be one, nor did Reagan. They were, however, our two greatest presidents. Being a patriot is a requirement if one wants to be an effective president. No democrat president since JFK has fulfilled that requirement, and thus all have been ineffective.

I would be more concerned about the millions that were slaughtered when the left forced the government to withdraw from Vietnam and the cut off all funding so that we do not repeat the same mistakes this time.

"The source you use is crap." Now there's an intelligent, well-thought-out response! Where's the documentation that this "source" is "crap"?? Or is it just a personal opinion? When someone can't offer an opposing viewpoint of any substance, it seems they believe they've adequately satisfied the question with smart-*** remarks, vulgarities, or insults instead of objective, fact-based opposing information. This YaHoo forum all-too-often resembles the Fox "News" network or the Rush Limbaugh propaganda "show". Don't back anything up with facts; just back it up with belligerence and b.s. -RKO- 08/23/07
