Well, given the energy problems we are having and will be expecting to have in the future, I will say it won't be for a very long time. It takes more energy to make a car fly than to roll.

Also, like you mentioned, we will need computers capable of handling the flying. There is no way a system of flying cars will work if they are operated by people. You might think you are a good driver, however, all it takes is one bad driver and you have a disaster with guaranteed fatalities. It won't be long before we get to that point though. Computers are getting better every year. It won't be long before they have cars on the road that are controlled by computers and not people. Maybe 10-20 years.

never because ppl will still drive as stupid as they do in the air as they do on the ground.. once you get the human out of the picture then!!! maybe. think about some idiot forgetting to gas up his flying car and crashing into a neighborhood at 200+ mph or some chick talking on a cell phone bashing herself into a mountain.

No, yet that's what we could desire to do . Make each and all of the roads like an air hockey interest, a splash air stress and the autos will opt to have vast bumpers made out of soft rubber so as quickly as we stumble upon one yet yet another there will be no harm , how will it artwork i do no longer understand regardless of the undeniable certainty that it incredibly is a start up.

Not in our lifetime. They were talking about this when I was a kid. Hell we were walking on the moon, too!
