I know he is like NL player, and the switch to AL is hard. (He beasted the NL in interleague play.)

But look at his numbers, he has 6 homers, he had 5 in 14 games in his rookie season.

Are the red sox going to trade him like they did with edgar renteria? and then jd drew will break out in the NL, with the red sox still taking on some of his contract (Like renteria).

J.D Drew stinks. He swings like a little girl. They brought him in here thinking he would feast off of the green monster. Not so much. I never liked him from day one. The other day when he got up in that pressure situation, he did not swing at ONE pitch and struck out. There is no excuse for that. Don't even get me started on his "tentative" defensive play. Any ball near the walls, he shys off. Pansy. He is pathetic and will go down as the worst acquisition of the Theo's tenure as GM. They should have held out for Jermaine Dye. Oh and as far as Damon is concerned as mentioned above, that was the best move to not keep him. He has been hurt all year and has not lived up to his potential in N.Y and it's only going to go down hill from here. Oh, and ya, Lugo had a rought start, but he is coming around now. He just had the most doubles in one month than any other MLB player. Thankfully, this team is in a groove and J.D. Drew is not hurting them.

You make a valid point, but the investment the Red Sox made in Drew was an astronomical one. Very few other teams (and especially no NL team) would dare put that towards their payroll. Give him time. You're asking a near middle aged (in baseball terms) player to adjust to a totally different game. He will get better with time. However, if Boston really wanted to trade him like they did Edgar (because that 100 + run season just wasn't cutting it, right?), then they'd have to eat some salary.

Drew has a decent OBP, but his power numbers are terrible. I'm sure the Sox were expecting him to power a lot of balls out down that right-field line, and the fact that he only has six homers has to be disappointing. He also has a .391 slugging percentage, which is horrible for a guy who came in over .500 for his career.

I'd say this is easily his worst year, but I don't think the Sox will give up too quickly on him. He may have a lingering injury (he has a history of those) that's slowing him down, or he might just be adjusting to AL pitchers. I think they'll at least give him another year to see if can straighten out his issues before they decide to move him.

i could say he's without question the main overpaid participant in MLB thinking his overall performance. he's a normal outfielder, at superb, and spends extremely a great form of time on the disabled record. He has a profession avg some distance below .3 hundred. he's a headache interior the lockerroom and a prima donna who has led to communities lots extra issues than he ever has solved together with his presence interior the lineup. Giving JD Drew $70 million money will tutor to be between the worst errors interior the history of the interest by skill of the time this settlement ends.

The only thing that matters is wins and losses.

So those of you that are in here trying to badmouth the Sox for "bad" acquisitions need to look at the standings.

Better yet, allow me:

The Sox are 76-51. That would be the best record in baseball.

Let's wait til the season is over, then you can complain that they made bad moves.

Yet another brilliant acquisition by the Red Sox.

They sign J.D. Drew and let Johnny Damon slip through their fingers over a few dollars and a extra year.

Did I mention that J.D. Drew makes more money than Ortiz and Schilling.

Just brilliant I tell ya!

some players just can't hack it in Boston. he tries so so hard to master the green wall & the green wall has put him in a trance!!!
2002 was also a bad year for him.
135 games, 61 Runs, 18 HRs, 56 RBIs, 104 Ks & .252 batting average.

Drew is a whiner with a lot of talent that can't be used. The Cardinals wasted many years on him waiting for him to live up to his potential.

I hope they can find someone to take this guy in the offseason. He has no personality and is only in it for himself.

I think Drew has had the worst Major league carrer ever.

With all his talent and ability he can only muster up this, he is a disgrace.
