See, that's a really good question! Some years back, I was talking to one of the old farmers in my neighborhood, and the subject of Milk Snakes came up. He assured me that some of his cows had been drained by Milk Snakes. When I pointed out that (a) Milk Snakes don't have a mouth and throat that allows them to suck, and (b) Milk Snakes have lots of very sharp, very painful teeth and I didn't know any cows that would stand there and let something that painful latch onto the teat, he responded by asserting that (1) Milk Snakes hypnotize the cows first so they don't feel the pain, and (2) the milk just drains down into the snakes (he didn't get too specific there, and I didn't feel like pressing him any further..). I figure a lot of it is just the normal human need not to be wrong. Once you make up your mind about something, it becomes a personal attack even to _think_ you might be wrong. It's easier to believe that everyone else is wrong. I suspect that's the big problem many people have with science and scientists - "If they're willing to concede they may be wrong, then their beliefs must not be worth that much!"

I don't know when this myth got started, but it is fairly recent.
The daddylonglegs is not a spider and it is not poisonous at
all. Two qualifications to this statement. There is a genuine
spider that is sometimes called a daddylonglegs spider, it
is Pholcus phalangioides of the family Pholcidae. However in
the United States a daddylonglegs is a phalangid or opilionid,
a completely different Order from spiders, and without venom(In England a daddylonglegs is a cranefly.) A second point
is that a bite from a daddylonglegs, if it penetrated the skin,
which few of them can do, might introduce bacteria that
could cause infection, which might make it seem venomous.

No. It has long been a unfounded thought. there are 2 categories, certainly one of which feeds on vegetable rely and the different is a venomous predator. To be truthful those are the two in orders of their own so as that they don't seem to be genuine spiders yet they're arachnids - interior the comparable way a mite is an arachnid (or a scorpion and so on and so on) yet they don't seem to be genuine spiders. the main helpful fable that grew to become into going around grew to become into that they are very posionous yet no longer able to penetrate human pores and skin, the 1st daddy long legs i discussed (the only that eats decomposing fabric) has no poison glands at all the latter you will actual penetrate human pores and skin even though scientists in no way appeared into its venom because it grew to become into so uncommon for it ever to chunk that maximum had in no way seen a case. Now i dont comprehend in case you have ever heard of mythbusters - a tutor on television the place they warfare out countless experiments and verify out to rule myths or locate them as fact. they actually did a tutor whilst they have been given a daddy long legs to chunk certainly one of their palms, it is an somewhat very NON-aggressive spider so it took slightly artwork, even though they have been given their end result. the guy merely experienced a gentle burning sensation and that grew to become into it. To be truthful i think of it grew to become right into a stupid learn as what the hell could they have performed if it grew to become into genuine?? yet thats fact television for you, you are able to google fable busters and daddy long legs and see what comes up in case you like. yet to respond to your question it incredibly is maximum actual a fable from what I actual have examine/seen

There is some confusion about daddy long legs which most people call the harvestmen arachnids commonly seen outdoors
Daddy long legs can also refer to cellar spiders that people commonly see in their houses, usually in the corners of the ceiling, they are a major contributor of cobwebs. They have small bodies and very long legs.
The snopes article refers to the cellar spiders you see in your house, not the harvestmen seen outdoors.
If your look at the statement that "daddy long legs are very poisonous" It isn't even clear whether it refers to harvestmen of cellar spiders.

This is a hoax, they can bite humans, and are not very poisonous.... just a little sting. I think mythbusters even did this once..........
I think BIDR doesn't read questions before he answers.......
John R- Good answer, It is like the WTC conspiracy theorists with the fire not weakening the structure. It doesn't have to make sense or be plausible to someone who "Knows" it is true, period. Guess that is a form of radical fanatisism.............

it is very deadly to flies. However, its mouth is too small to bite a human.
