I am a graphic designer and I use both an iMac and PC at work. However, I want to get a computer at home. I'm debating between an iMac or a PC. I'll be using it mostly for CS3, photography and web design. I don't want to spend alot of money. I have to have Microsoft Office to be able to do online classes. (Enrolled in Web Design)
I know there are lots of things you can do on a PC that you can't do on a Mac and visa versa.

Someone please help!!!!

a mac because you can dual boot so you can still use windows and if you need just word for your course you can use openoffice on mac and or windows ( www.openoffice.org ) which is open source and can read and write to and from microsoft office files such as word, excel etc.

You can get microsoft office for the mac ( as in mac os x ) , they are bringing out leopard which will be a lot better.

If you need more help post back or email me

My (pro) graphics designer friends all swear by Macs, if that makes a difference. And if I recall correctly, a Mac comes with (an older) version of Word (and maybe some other Office stuff?) or at least can handle some Office files?) So check out the Mac Office handling stuff...then I think, go Mac.

I'm a PC user, tried and true. I'm a website designer. I'm a member of several webmaster forums. Several webmasters with whom I've talked say, they'd design on no other than their Mac Pros because they can test on more browsers. Thing is, with either Parallels or BootCamp, you can run Windows on a Mac. (You have to buy a copy of Windows, of course...)

A truly "souped up" Mac is an expensive proposition, of course. But you should be able to find an iMac that'll serve. They're all bragging about the new one. Good luck! (I'm going with a Macbook Pro, next.)

More promoting, a higher advertising workforce, sensible layout, homogeneity. PC is pretty much any laptop now not a mac, and of path they're going to run the gamut in excellent/fee/layout. Therefore the one factor that Macs particularly have over each PC is that they are able to run Apple proprietary program. There's additionally an photograph factor that I'm noticing with Macs. Due to their branding and promoting Macs are recognized as "cooler" than their PC counterpart in particular subcultures. I'm on account that plenty of you set down 'virus loose' as some of the principal execs of a mac. That nevertheless has to do with the Unix founded running approach run at the Mac alternatively than the Mac itself. If PC customers are so willing, they are able to additionally get a plague loose running approach in some of the many Linux flavors.

For CS3 definitely a mac, CS3 is built for Mac and works better/faster on it,
However PC's are usually cheaper and work with more software,
For you I'd say get the iMac
