I'm SO glad you said "hopeful" - most of our lot seem to be no-hopers nowadays ! ! !

I'll miss him, even if I did loath his middle-England public schoolboy image - but hey, it's tennis, middle-England's favourite sport (behind patting each other on the back and going on long walks). People in this country are either incredibly ungrateful or incredibly ignorant. Very few players win Grand Slams but he is the best British player we've had in the open era (even though Rusedski reached the USO final in '97). He always carried himself well in the press, unlike Murray, a complete brat and an anglophobe - who, by the way, will never win a GS title. It's a shame he had to take so much sh.it from the tabloids, who never acknowledged his achievements and only paid attention to the sport when there wasn't any football only.

Henman never had the heart of a champion.
Andy Murray also lacks in that department.
They both have talent.
Well, good luck to both, one in retirement and one for this years Wimbledon!

He will missed only by the Brits and not by others.
They already have a better player, Andy Murray and he will do
good if he is injury free. This guy can play and I saw him
beating Andy Roddick in San Jose.
Murray is a good hard court player, but yet to seen as a good
grass court player as well. Hopes are high, but they die down
soon as they start loosing and moral of the players will be way
down.

I was never a Tim hater and on the rare occasions he has won a match and played well I have been cheering with the rest of them. I just feel so disappointed. He showed great promise but never full filled our expectations. I don't feel confident in Murray.I think he has the ability to achieve but I am not convinced that he has the stamina or temperament. Also I worry about his continuing injuries.

I saw Tim (Timmah Tim-bo etc etc) in Wimbledon superdrug a couple of months ago. He was signing autographs but wearing full tennis clobber AND trying to hold a racket whilst signing the wrinkled bosoms of geriatric biddies.
The poor guy looked completely fed up, I reckon hes probably glad to be well out of it!
Lets face it: the dude was pretty cack. And yeah, its a sad but true fact that us Briteeesh will just find another sporting also-ran to become our tabloid punchbag.
Please excuse my ranting...I have had a tipple this evening.

When Sampras was at the tp of his game Henman was one of the few that could challenge him on grass. Indeed Sampras probably stopped him winning several championships.
Well done Tim!

He will be missed! Guess he will become as critical of poor Andy now as a commentator. Comments such as "..now when i used to play, i would have..." or " tut tut, he just didn't get down to that" etc etc. God he is going to enjoy it..
