respectfully, before answering this question do your research, and not say what you would do during torture, regular people would definitely spill the beans, but trained agents and certain military people are known to resist torture and give false answers.

Even if terrorists arent trained agents, i still find it hard to get verifiable information from them. These terrorists are religious fanatics, and its equal to torturing a conservative to renounce christianity and Jesus. Its just not going to happen no matter what you do to them. Its the same for these terrorists. Being in intelligence circles, I can attest that the greatest information does not come from extreme torture and mutilation as some would think. What say you to that?

been proven to not be.
But what people dont talk about is how it legitimizes the enemy doing it to your own soldiers. By doing it, you lose the moral high ground and cant really complain about them doing stuff to your soldiers.

The answer is both no and yes.
In most cases torture is ineffective because the person will say almost anything to stop it. Thus they may well admit to something that would put them in front of a firing squad and certain death rather than suffer on.
But there are degrees and different techniques. Most countries look on what has happened in guantanamo and other US black prisons as torture and undoubtedly some information gained has been correct and verifiable but at what cost?
The US is regarded by most countries as acting illegally. Al quaida and other groups use it as vindication of their attacks on the US. Whilst some admissions are verifiably true it leads the US to put store by other admissions which are deliberately sown to cause trouble for the US with their allies.
The US and most Western military personnel are advised to hold out as long as they can to allow time to change codes, methods of operation etc but then to save themselves further grief and give limited cooperation.
Next I supposed comes the question of if it is ever justified. The answer to that has to be a resounding NO - BUT - Sometimes the greater good has to prevail. If a terrorist known to be plotting something like 9/11 with others was captured just days before the event which might kill thousands would it be wrong to torture or wrong not to torture knowing thousands mght die!
So a conundrum with no right answer!!!

Sure it is, pull out my fingernails and I'll tell you anything, anything at all. I'll even make it up for you, tie it in a bow for you too.
Pain does strange things, fear too.
Your question should read:
Is information acquired by torture accurate?
Its been proven not to be, one can only wonder why we keep on doing it. It seems to be a simple case of wanting to meet cruelty with cruelty.
Edit.
Many of the people tortured are not trained agents, they are ordinary people that are thought to have knowledge that is useful. It takes considerable time and training to even begin to approach the level that would be needed to block out torture and psychological restructuring.
Its more a gimmick in a book than a fact of life.

The sadists who actually perform various techniques on others obviously get some enjoyment. Perhaps torture is effective in that it gives folks like Michael Vick job alternatives...

Under international law, torture is a war crime, a crime against humanity, and an international crime in itself. Cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment is also forbidden. The prohibition on torture is absolute, and cannot be suspended even in times of public emergency.

Absolutely. While there is a moral debate going on constantly over whether or not we should use torture, torture is a last resort tool that is very effective on most people.

It depends on if you are tourturing people who know anything or not. If they don't know what you want get from them, then it doesnt work. It is very effective with people who do know things!!!
Here is the humane way to tourture someone.
1. make him talk off his clothes and pull out body hair for about and hour.
2. Beat him with a board on the bottom of the feet. It doesn't leave a mark.
3. Feed them only very spicy food with know water.
4. Load music!!!!
ect. There are ways to get to someone without permenatly injuring them.

several cases where the accused was tortured into a confession have proven through DNA that the confession was false.
Most people would say or do anything when their testicles are put in a vise

there have been studies that show that it is ineffective and that those being tortured will say anything they can that they think those doing the torturing WANT to hear.
