is this because a lot of potential killers are afraid of the advancement of forensics these days? Or are more people coming to their senses realizing that killing someone and getting away with it these days is near impossible?????

Well, that is a very good question. Have you considered the possibility that the crimes are still occurring, but those responsible are smart enough to get away with it?

People go missing all the time. There are multiple reasons for it.

But your hypotheses are probably of some value. I believe that the authorities have access to better technology, and have better methods of catching serial murderers now than they used to.

It does seem that there aren't that many active serial killers right now, doesn't it? I don't know why that is. Maybe it is a trend that will continue. I hope so!

But as you probably know, the media controls what we hear and see. It is controlled by the government. It seems logical to me that there are evil things happening that certain parties don't want us to know about.

Once again, I do think your observations deserve some merit. It is becoming more difficult for people to get away with killing other fellow human beings, which is, of course, a good thing. Hopefully, this fact serves as a deterrent to capital crimes.

I think that is only partly true. I guess the advancement in technolgy is a factor-but that didn't stop that guy in the VA Tech shootings, right? I think that over time the serial killers from then started to be known now, and was maybe only featured on the local nightly news back then.

It's because the police is not making these things public nowadays....
There are still alot of serial killers roaming the states....
Check some websites about persons that disapear and unknown bodies and you will dee that there are still several of them in the states.
Remember serial killers are very smart ,they don't care about forensic advencement....they figure a way to go around it.

I wasn't aware of any reduction in serial killings these days but if it's true I'd say it almost must be because of technological advancements many of which have also lead to a limited angst ridden paradigm unfit for human habitation and I haven't even begun lol.

I think it's just because it takes a number of years for law enforcement workers to tie separate murders across the country together!! Then, after years, the different law enforcement agencies realize that they are all tied together. Wait another 10 yrs and there will be as many as usual!!

Maybe the police are covering these actions up, because the more media attention they get, the more people will be inspired to do it. They hope in covering it up from media attention they will dissuade potential serial killers from trying.
