Given their offensive struggles, I think they need to go out and acquire a bat or two for that lineup. Juan Pierre is an absolute joke in that lineup ($9.5m per year for a .326 OBP), and he's not likely to get any better. And while I like Nomar, his skills have really degraded and I'd be looking for a more typical power bat at first base. He's hitting .280, but his OBP is as bad as that of Pierre. And while Kent is putting up decent numbers yet again, he will be 40 next season and it's time to look at finding a replacement. If they stick with their current bunch, this team will not score a lot of runs.
As for the staff, I think the five you have listed would be good. If Schmidt can get healthy, he should still be a good 2-3 guy, and that group would give them one of the NL's best pitching staffs.

Well being that that pretty much their current lineup I highly doubt it will remain that way. You're assuming they wont make any moves at all. I'd say we wont have Nomar at the start of next year, and they might deal one or two of the young guys for a veteran or a big bat. It's hard to say at this point. We'll see how the team shapes up after winter meetings.

The Yankees have not any hobby in Manny. they have Damon, Swisher, and Nady all obtainable interior the outfield next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, and their long term plan is to have a house grown outfield of Cabrera, Gardner, and actual minor league prospect Austin Jackson. The others are only filling in till those 3 are as much as hurry. we aren't going to get anybody long term. Plus, at last, while Jeter can't play short end anymore, he would be an surprising good fielder, yet provided that this became his superb protecting 3 hundred and sixty 5 days in an prolonged time, that'll be a on a similar time as nonetheless. Torre is on the subject of the sole guy accessible who can manage Manny. He became waiting to handle the egos of Soriano and Sheffield devoid of subject (Sheffield called him a racist, yet that wasn't till Shef left the Yanks, on a similar time as he became with the gang he became properly behaved, unlike the remainder of his occupation). in case you're taking Manny remote from Torre, he will have the comparable issues he had with the crimson Sox, the place they presented a destiny corridor-of-famer easily up for grabs and no one wanted him. i do no longer think of Manny will flow everywhere and if he does, it won't end properly.

I'd ditch Nomar. Let's face it, he's done. I'd keep an eye out for an outfielder. There will be plenty in free agency, and something tells me that the Dodgers aren't going to just hand Ethier the starting job. Kent is also aging (albeit gracefully), so his future is permanently up in the air. Otherwise, they figure to have a similar team next year.

Probably start Shea Hillenbrand at 1st and pick up a veteran for right field because Kemp and Loney will need some help. Probably acquire a 5th starter and but Billingsly in the 'Pen and they will be fine
