No. I don't see why it is in the first place. It doesn't stop anyone that really wants to die, not to mention you can't charge someone for killing themselves - they're dead. Attempted suicide isn't even enforced, I've never heard of police raiding institutions for someone slicing themselves. As for assisted suicide, some of that is questionable since it's a fine line between murder in those cases. Kevorkian wasn't bad in my opinion, people with debilitating diseases should have that option - however, depressed people in general shouldn't be able to use that.

Suicide being illegal is one of those things that makes sense and doesn't at the same time. I mean, how can you really enforce it? You're not going to sentence an attempted suicide with the death penalty. And jail time could facilitate a future attempt. I do believe people who have been discovered to have attempted suicide should get therapy immediately. Let's work on correcting the problem of why they wanted to kill themselves in the first place.

Suicide may be illegal, except in Oregon where they have assisted suicide, but that doesn't stop people from doing it. Instead of trying to outlaw it, which wouldn't make a difference, perhaps people should keep an eye on others and offer them help whenever they seem to be depressed and suicidal. That's what would help.

I dont really see the point in the law. Making that law is a waste of time and money. It just makes people more likely to kill themselves first time because they dont want to make a mistake incase they have to get punished. If the law didnt exist there might be more attempter suicides and people failing. This would mean they could get treatment.

making suicide illegal is the biggest joke ever..

..i mean, as somebody who's attempted suicide, you don't stop to think if you'll go to jail on the off chance that you fail.

its just another one of those dumb laws we got from the bible.

No, I don't.
I believe that if a patient is terminal, and in a lucid state of mind, then he/she should have the right to die on his/her own terms, and if that means Doctor assisted then so be it.

i think suicide is a very sad thing, but it should be the person's choice. you can't control a person's will to live. though, talking to you, i have no doubt you'll try.
