2 years after the flood, and less then 25% of the city has been rebuilt. tens of thousands still live in fema trailers, whining and complaining, instead of rebuilding their homes. Texas and the Midwest had massive floods, damaging thousands of homes, and none of them are whining. They are ALREADY rebuilding, just days later. No fema trailers, no crime, no looting. I think we should turn N.O. into a landfill, and anyone still in trailers 2 years after the storm can be buried right with the city. Sound good to you?

I think you have to look at the differences, first of all, Mayor Ray is not in Texas, thank God.
Ray is about Ray and placing blame, Ray is not about getting up off his butt and doing for his "people" those who voted for him, those who support him.
He wants everyone else to come in and do the work that should be done by the state and town itself!

How would that work exactly? Are you suggesting that BIG GOVERNMENT take away the homes of all the residents of a major US metropolitan area?
I began rebuilding 1 month after the storm because soldiers wouldn't let me near my home until then. it is almost fully rebuilt now but there is no economic base to support it and the insurance companies are forcing us into every position in the Kama Sutra.
You have absolutely no earthy idea about landforms or economies of scale.
It is ignorant, do nothings like yourself that will destroy this nation

I think that if we rebuild it, it's done with the knowledge that the US gov't will NOT bail them out of any other natural disasters the next time. If these people want to live in a swampy, bug-infested hole that's deeper than sea level, then they should assume responsibility for the risks of living there.
Remember the Mississippi river floods about 5-10 years ago? Whole towns that used to be on the river banks were relocated to higher ground. Those people that wanted to live on the river were allowed to, but if it floods again (and it will), they won't get houses built by the USA. They have to insure them themselves. It should be done the same way in New Orleans.

Lessons learned from the N.O. disaster has taught the rest of the country not to depend on FEMA or government. As for the continued mess in N.O. They were screwed. Left to die. I feel amends should be made. The other side of this is. It is time for them to stand up and take control of their lives. They may not know how to do this.

The problem is with the FEMA support. People are living there free...so what's the motivation to have them rebuild? Why not just keep living like they are? The only way it will force people to rebuild is to give them deadlines to rebuild by. If you can't rebuild in another year, I'm sorry, the trailer is being taken away..or at least be able to show that you are actively planning rebuilding.

If FEMA would spend the money given them on disaster areas, and not new world order black ops, it would be a different situation.

People that build next to dangerous flood walls and live on beaches where known hurricanes flourish, should have their houses taken by eminent domain. Yes, I'm tired of taxpayers paying for their stupidity.

Even if the city is condemned, there will always be a shipping port there.
