I’m a writer with a fantasy novel coming out; I have been working on it for 15 years now and very proud of it. But I have a question for the public. What are you waiting for in a book?

Leave your writing to what's important and worthy to you, not the public. Once you start focusing only on what the public wants you start to lose your passion. Write what you want to write and what makes you proud. If people are interested in your novel they will pick it up and read it.

And congratulations for completing your novel!

You asked so here goes...

I am not waiting. I read whatever I can get my hands on and have time for. For me a book just has to have the following:

1.) Great in depth characters I can relate to.
2.) Information about its subject matter which I have not read before (I want to learn).
3.) No, what I call, "stumbling blocks.” A book should be written so it flows. I should never at any point have to stop and think why did the author word it that way or why the sudden change in writing style. This knocks me out of the story and shuts down my imagination. It makes me realize I am just reading not experiencing the book.

Hope this helps. Write on!

AC,

It is so simple: THE END

Now, how you get there is the hard part!! You as a writer have to lead the reader on a path to reach that end. For the most part, it should be treacherous, in that you could be in mortal danger (of losing their interest before the end) if you aren't careful to pull the reader along that journey!!!

Best of luck to you! And remember, leave the reader satisfied, but just like after consuming (warning cliche coming up) Chinese food ... a few hours later they are hungry for more. Can you deliver?

I'm not "waiting" for anything... I am reading the great books that are out there all ready.
