So I'm planning a Vegas trip for the first weekend of Nov. I need some help deciding on what carrier and flight to choose.

I get frequent flier miles with NW/Continental and Alaska.

So if I go through them, it'll cost me roughly $278-298 a ticket (I need two)

However, if I go through SouthWest (who I dont get miles with, but could start):

It'd be roughly 288 a person for a flight leaving vegas either 10:50 AM or 8:45 PM. But I can save almost $50 per person by leaving at 8:30 AM.

Which carrier would you choose?

Would you go for leaving Sunday early 8:30 AM and save the money, or leave a little later at 10:50 AM for a little extra..or leave late at 8 pm..to take advantage of my last day in Vegas?

Thanks a bunch

~Gavin

I've been on several airline carriers to Las Vegas including the two you mentioned. NW, I wasn't too happy with. So-so service and rough take offs and landings. Southwest is a good no-frills airline and usually good on airfares too. When you arrive and leave LV is up to you. Weekends are tough as noted on another response. If you're a night owl and can stand a "red-eye" flight to LV, nothing beats the view at night as you're flying into the airport! I've done all kinds of times to and from so really, it's your choice. I've saved money by booking red-eye flights btw. Personally, I like leaving LV later and spend more time on my last day, it goes by real fast. You can save more by flying in on a Monday through Wednesday instead of a weekend. Also, I found that USAirways provided me with the most for my money. They may charge a bit more than others so if you're budget oriented, they may not be for you. Lastly, check directly on the airline's websites, you can usually save $$ by booking direct. Check out the websites below if you're inclined. Good luck.

One time I was in Las Vegas, I just stayed up all night and took the first flight out. Try not and do that so do not take the 8:30am flight out of Las Vegas on Sunday morning.

How long is your flight home? If you leave by 5:00pm then you can have a relaxing evening at home and you will be ready to tell stories to your co-workers the next day at work.

Take the 10:50 flight out of Vegas. Be prepared for huge security lines at anytime on Sundays. I've tried the whole leaving in the evening thing, but really you have to check out at like 11am from your hotel and then what do you do with your luggage...you can leave it with the hotel, but that means you still have to go back and pick it up. In reality, you spend the whole day just wait for the time to come that you have to leave for the airport.

Take the flight to vegas that saves money and gives you more time in Vegas. If you are the type that can handle getting home late from a plane delay and still be able to make work on time and do well then leave at 8 p.m. Otherwise take an earlier flight because of flight delays. They are epidemic these days.

It really doesn't matter which carrier you pick. Do what is best for your wallet. But be aware that flying out of Las Vegas on a Sunday is pandemonium at the airport. Be sure to get there a minimum of two hours beforehand. I would say three is not a bad idea.

You're going to have to check out of your hotel at 11am, and you'll have to lug your luggage around with you if you stay later. I'd just leave early and save $50!

I would choose the later flight and stay later.

Especially if you don't come to Vegas that often.
