There is a lot of ignorance out there about geography - all over the place.
That said, you do realize that originally West Virginia WAS the western part of Virginia - and that it became West Virginia when Virginia seceeded from the Union before the Civil War.
So maybe Civil War, or Revolutionary War reenactors will say that. :-)
