That you put diesel in it by mistake????

Be careful what you use as an excuse as the karma of the universe may well visit you with the fault you choose to use as an excuse: so make it simple and cheap to repair in case this happens! For instance faulty plugs for a petrol engine are cheap to replace as are the plug leads but both have the potential to immobilise the car! For a diesel this is more problematical, so do not use any engine excuse but choose a flat tyre and say the garage over tightened the wheel nuts, as they still do, so you were stuck!

Do not use an of the following as they are expensive, water in the petrol, any clutch trouble, flat battery is OK if you can afford one.

Hope this helps, regards Anthony.

Sorry, but there is no good excuse for lying. Tell the truth, and don't let yourself ever get into a situation where you have to make up excuses because you're late. Employers are very wise to the "my car had trouble" excuse. That's why employers ask if you have reliable transportation to work. That way, you cannot use the "my car had trouble" excuse.

The car had a terrible sound when you started it and it scared you so you turned if off quick. Your having someone come over to check it out and maybe have it towed in.

Afterwards what was wrong questions: I can't believe it was so low on oil, the mechanic said I am real lucky my motor did not seize up. They put in oil and some engine treatment stuff and I am suppost to take it easy for awhile to see if it will be ok...

tell them that it's not starting and you have no idea what's wrong. you're waiting for a tow truck and you doubt you'll be able to make it in today.

keep it simple.
then, if someone asks you about it when you come back to work just say "yeah, that was not a pretty mechanic bill!! but it works now. i still don't even really know what was wrong..."
then leave it at that.

just keep it simple. the more details you give the easier it is to tell that you're lying.

i have been in management a looong time. i can spot a big fat lie a mile away.

take care and good luck.

Alternator stuck and I can't rock it side to side to free it because I have my work clothes on and I've locked the key to the house inside the car so I can't go and change them. Just going to use my mobile to call my hubby who's at work to come and rescue me so I doubt if I can make it into work until this afternoon.

Sounds like a made up story....fraid not true!

My car just stopped in the middle of the road, and it took 4 people to push it to a side, then I tried to start my car, but no use, until I called a car repairer who fixed it

MZknowitall--that actually happened to me..lol..it was nuts...I was at work and we had a mini-tornado and a car port and a tree fell on the top of my car..

But a good excuse...flat tire, engine blown, won't start, it needs a new battery...the list is endless....

I work w/auto parts and I would say one of the following.
alternator went out.
starter went out.
relay switch for the either went bad.
flat tire.
just won't start.
Or if your really wanting to be believed then say "I haven't the slightest idea but all I know is it is on fire".
Good luck, don't forget the excuse.

Your oil light is on, and the car is running hot.
You're taking it into the shop.
They told you "not" to drive it, so it's being towed.
My Dad has always told me that if my oil light comes on, to never drive it to call him.
He says just pull over to the side of the road and call for help.
So I'll be kind enough, to lend you this excuse.
I just hope we don't have the same employer ;)

I have not missed a day of work in 20 years. It is your responsibilty to go and do your job. It would be dishonest to make up an excuse.
