biofuels are organic substances or mixtures that can be produced by fermentation, or simple organic reactions on vegetable material.

ethanol (called bioethanol when produced by fermentation from starch for example, or fermentation of discarded parts from sugar cane or any sugar containing vegetable)= can substitute gasoline, a car for running with ethanol needs only a modification to the carburator.
The number of octane is lower than standard gasoline, but it's really cleaner of course. 80% of cars in Brazil run on ethanol, 50% of cars in Sweden run on 85% ethanol/15% gasoline.

biodiesel = methyl ester of vegetable oil, nearly every vegetable oil can be used, with particular attention to long chain vegetable oils, which could freeze during winter at around 2°C-7°C.
Ethyl ester can be used also, but freeze at even higher temps.
Very good for hot climates. Number of cetane of biodiesel is around 103, that means biodiesel makes your car run faster.

dimethylfuran= godd substitute for gasoline, can be produced from sugar, but the reactions are not optimized for industrial scale right now, so you cannot buy it.
