if two class interval are given :
15.5 - 18.5 and 19.5 - 22.5

18.6 belongs to which class interval?

Answer: 18.6 does not belong to any class interval because it is neither within the range of between 15.5 and 18.5 and between 19.5 and 22.5.

nah it doesnt belong to anything. poor 18.6. it got no life. Since u can also see that the limit is from 15.5 - 18.5 and from 19.5 - 22.5. So 18.6 comes after 18.5, but it doesnt fit in any intervals. So the answer is NONE!

how are the intervals closed or open ?

if they are like below then it belongs to the first one.

[15.5-18.6[
[19.5 - 22.5[

It doesn't belong to either one, because the two intervals are not contiguous and do not cover the numerical space between them, which is where 18.6 falls.
