If you want to lose weight through walking, you must maintain the right heart rate (there are plenty of websites that can tell you what your target heart rate is, according to your age, etc). Walking for at least 30 mins every day is essential. A couple of sessions of 30 mins or more is great.
Walking is a cardiovascular exercise, which means it burns fat and improves heart health - it's not a muscle-building exericse. It will help tone your legs a little, but to build muscle you need to do resistance training, ie: weights.
All of this should of course be combined with a healthy, balanced diet, otherwise you won't achieve any positive, long-term results. Good luck :)

I'm not sure about gaining mucle but it'd hep you lose some weight. Not much though.
If you would like to lose a sufficient amount of weight you can get a work out video. Yoga, pilates, kick boxing...they can all help in their own ways.
If it helps for you to be a group setting you can join a sport or a class at a gym. Once you actually join a gym you can run, bike, or use the stair climber for cardio and losing weght. For toning ang gaining muscle they have a myriad of machines for almost every part of your body.
Remember that eating right is just as important to losing weight though. Don't stop eating as that will slow your metabolism a great deal and harm your health. Rather eat smaller portions and snack on healthier foods such as fruits and vegeatbles in between meals.
Good luck

It helps with weight and keeps your heart healthy. Not much effect on overall tone and muscle, though. Those require dedicated exercises.

It will help you lose weight, but it will not build and tone muscles all over your body. It will help your lower body, but not your arms or abdominal or core muscles.
