I read somewhere while back. There is an old lady in Europe. She got a connection speed at 40 GBps.

I presume you are talking about non-business connections only.
100 Mbit/s (upload and download) fibre-to-the-home connections are currently the fastest available. They have been widely deployed in Japan, Korea, France, and Sweden. In the US they are only available in a handful of neighborhoods.
There is the plan to launch 1 Gbit/s connections in a few years in certain areas.

A T3 connection, though they dont give them out to personal homes anymore. T1 is second to the top and is usually given to businesses and then cable is 3rd to the top.

How much money do you have?
Practically, it depends on what your local provider can provide you with. For a domestic user, it might be something like ADSL2+ which can go to 24Gb over good new wires for short distances (<2miles?).
