I have read about several species of birds smart enough to crash nuts at the crossroads - magpies, titbirds, jaybirds tghey were reported to set up the nuts under the wheels of waiting cars, they fly away wait until the cars pass and then eat the crushed nuts.

I like the Hitchock idea and the vultures, too. :)

I have asked the same question for years and have seen this every where I've lived all my life. Maybe it has something to do with the electrical current that happens there?

It could just be where the local ecology of your town lies. There could be a large bird population nesting nearby, because I have not noticed this in my town.

They might sit near traffic however, because if they see a lot of moving objects, they might assume living things that could serve as food would also be nearby. Maybe.

I saw this in a movie once, they are planning a take over of the world. They are at the intersection counting cars to see how many of us there are....
