First off, I'm a black male that was dating an Asian (Chinese) female. I went to her house one day (extremely nervous) and met her mother. My ex-girl had two younger sisters that both had white boyfriends. As I talked with her mother, I noticed that she had this stern, determined look on her face to not smile or show any kind of emotion. She asked me some offensive stereotypical questions, yet I answered them politely. When I told her I was in college she just said "Really? That's nice." She then asked my ex to go into the kitchen with her. They argued for about 10 minutes but I didn't pay attention until I heard her mother's EXACT words: "Why you don't go with white guy?! You could at least find Chinese!" I was shocked. My girl came out of the kitchen with a forced smile, and then we left. The next day, she told me "we should just be friends". Because I still like her, I agreed. Now she goes with a white guy, and I feel SOOO crushed. Should I still be friends with her?

It's cultural really. Most Asian ethnic groups have a tenuous relationship with the black community at best. To bring home a black significant other is considered embarrassing to the parents in the community. This is not so much a problem with 2nd Generation Asians-Americans living in the States, but moreso the 1st Generation Asian-Americans whose parents were immigrants. My wife's parents (who are Korean immigrants) had the same stipulation with her with one addition. No blacks or Japanese. So, you're not alone.

Okay, this is what I suggest to you.

You can stay in contact with her. I believe her decision was affected by her parent and the Chinese are quite obedient to their parents. Make your best in your work, lovelife, everything. Be the best person you can be. Get a good girl, pretty independent-----maybe Hispanic or other Asian. If you get another black, it might not make much difference to her.

Make that girl feel sorry that she left you. Treat your next girl with kindness and respect. Be the best.

if you really want this girl so much..is the mother you should be after. I can't teach you how to because I don't know you and the situation. But this is the only way..I m a Chinese and is a mother too.

I think maybe you could still be friends with her as I think she is influenced by her parents, she must have liked you to go out in the first place. However, I think you need to talk to her openly about the situation and your feelings. If she can't understand that, then you should cut ties before it gets any worse.
