The stop lamp fuse for a 96' Marquis is fuse #1, it a blue 15 amp fuse located in the lower right corner of the instrument fuse panel, it is straight down from the flasher.

Its in the fuse box under dash you will need your owners manual or a test light, hope this helps.

It should be marked as BRAKE or STOP.
