Mine is about 3 years old and typically pushes water out about once per hour. Lately, with all of the rain in our area, it has been working overtime, running about 10 times per hour.

Should I be considering the purchase of a replacement?
Thanks.

I have one that is 11 years old, and it was in the house when we bought the place. The house was built in 1976, so the pump could be as old as 31 years.

While the pump itself has never failed, the switch on it has failed, twice. Since a sump pump is such a critical thing to have working correctly, I bought a spare switch to have on hand if/when it does fail again, so that I can have it working again in just a few minutes. Changing it is a matter of 2 screws, and 2 wire clips that attach to the pump's wiring. You just have to be very careful to not drop the screws into the sump pump crock!

It is a good idea to have a spare on hand. There is nothing like Knowing that you have back up systems in place. I have 3 pumps in my house. 1 in my tenants basement, and 2 in mine. I bought expensive pumps, but they have been working now for 24 years. I live in a very low area. They don't run every day, but they do run a lot.

useage is the deciding factor

my father had some that lasted for many years and others that could fail in a year's use. depending on the water table for that year.
