sorry, i am just going to come out and say what i think may have happened and it's a bit harsh so please dont read if you dont want to :-)
so after all these reports on "accidentally killed in her appartment" "sniffer dogs find scent of corpse in appartment" "gerry and kate accused of druging the children" i have come to my conclusing....
I think the children were drugged, i thought this right from the beginning and was quite suprised when i saw it in the news and thought to myself "i knew it!!" my friends are nurses and they gave their daughter these sedetives when they went to mexico last year to help her sleep, i also think they drugged them because i thought it was strange the twins slept through the abduction (in fact, not just the abduction, they slept through kate finding maddie missing - surely she was screaming, everyone looking in the apartment AND still didnt wake up when the police arrived and carried them out!)

... so the children were put to sleep, maybe maddie didnt quite go off straight away or something and gerry gave her a little more, they went out for dinner, a friend (or gerry) checks on the children, they find maddie dead, they tell gerry/kate, they then decide to fake an abduction as their doctors and they were scared - then they queue kate to find maddie "missing" later and the rest you all know!

i do not expect you to agree with me AT ALL, i did not say and have never said anywhere "please don't open if your not going to agree with me" i was warning that it IS a conspiricy theory and i know many don't like conspiricy theories (actually i hated them about this case too a little while ago) and so therefore was issuing a warning before opening!

thank you The Ideal Muggle i agree, just because my friends drug their children doesn't mean the whole world does, it's possible this happened but hopefully it didn't! and i haven't heard of anorak, sorry! but i'm not sure what woman you are talking about at the end, all my links are to english newspapers that have reported this! but you do have some good points and lets hope i'm not right! - it is just a conspiricy theory, i didnt say it definatly happened :-)

The horrible lapse in judgment made to leave those children unattended happened in a foreign country- What jurisdiction would the UK have to take the children? Just because it hasn't be acted upon doesn't mean that it is condoned or that the failure to act somehow represents an endorsement of parents that left their children unattended. The bottom line may be they really can't do anything. If they could they might have. I totally agree with the sentiment that all the hoopla around the suspects and the theories are distracting from either looking for or finding the child from every angle. And yes, it has turned into "for or against" "Pro or Anti-McCann", "I'm right, you're wrong". People that think they have it figured out and it's just one big pis*ing match because nobody on here knows any of the "facts" only what they read and that can hardly be credited as being fact.

Right the only things i just can't understand is the fact they left the children in the first place then the fact they didn't ring the police straight away when they find that madeleine is missing i think i heard they rang about 2 hours after i think :S ? then that the so called friends can't make their mind up on if the saw murat outside the apartment or not...but to be honest i don't know all the facts and i don't think anyone does except the police and the mccanns. It's like i said the other day though i have a bad feeling this is going to be one of those cases what might never be solved and never find the little girl or her body sorry to say! This whole thing is just really odd though

It is a very good theory, but I think it is too unlikely that, in such a really short period of time, a few hours or less right after finding their daughter dead, the McCanns decided what to do next, got all of their friends to agree with the plan, organised and carried out the disappearance of the body, made up a story about an abduction, took care of leaving no evidence around, etc. It seems too risky a movement even for a professional criminal. It would have been easier to just take the girl to hospital and say that the girl took his or her medication from their suitcase or something while they were sleeping and it was all an unfortunate accident. There wouldn't have been any police intervention and they could have easily gotten away with it, specially being doctors themselves. What I mean is, there was really no need to go for the abduction-circus plan.
Also, it is not that easy to get rid of a body and leave no evidence.
I believe that whatever happened was planned or known in advance, and that there is someone else involved.

I am Anti-MacCann, though recently I have stopped commenting on this subject, due to so many question and theories being posted, I have to say yours was very informative. you backed up your theories with open links and made sure the community knewthat this was just a theory. I believe that the parents should be looked at more, they did something they're not revealing. also have you noticedthat when something is mentioned on this site it seem s to be in the papers the next day.

I agree with most of what you say but my theory is that it was O'Brien (friend) who gave the drugs which killed Maddy (overdose) because if he was the one who took the body away whilst the McCanns were still in the Tapas bar then he must have been a damned good friend to get himself involved and risk jail etc etc if he hadn't caused the death in the first place. So I think it was he who gave the drugs and then took the body back to his room (cadaver dogs got scent of body in another room on the complex). Then it was moved later .

An interesting theory but I find it hard to believe that they could keep the story together under so much investigation. I think Kate would have cracked by now. I still cling to the belief that she is alive.

It is a plausible theory, I thought that one of the mccanns male friends might have sexually assaulted her in her room and when she put up a fight it got nasty, but its hard for us to come up with theories because we dont know details like was one of the male members gone for a while or how often did they really check the kids, the police are bound to have thought of all these theories aswell x

intresting theory...so what do you think they did with the body then? surely someone would have seen them take it out and it would have been found by now. i think they did kill her..whether they meant to or not i dont know but they were stupid and selfish enough to leave the kids..if you ask me they should have their other kids taken off them...and they call themselves doctors! if that had been a workign class family on benefits who did that their kids would have gone into care and they would be in court waiting to be jailed for neglect. double standards!

Re the drugging .. highly possible. phenodal exilar(bad spelling) is what i was given for my son when we took a long haul flight three years ago ..
My doctor gave me this to enable him to sleep and it was potent stuff ..
My son had one spoonful on the flight and he was out cold for 12 hours .. It was almost instant and not once did he wake up.
