Viruses are written to specific operating systems or environments. Macs are susceptible to viruses, but not necessarily the same ones that are written for Windows PCs or Linux PCs. Viruses generally take advantage of software vulnerabilities, and different systems often have different vulnerabilities.

Because the losers that write virus's want to mess up as many computers as they can so they target the PCs. Some of them low-lives must of heard the bragging about how Macs don't get virus's and with Macs becoming more popular virus's are starting to pop up for Macs too. It's just as easy to write a virus for a Mac as it is for a PC.

Windows itself is not the main gateway for viruses and spyware. Internet Explorer and Outlook are. Micro$oft put lots of "backdoors" in these two programs that bad people find out about and then exploit.

Also, Mac's now use a UNIX derived operating system which has much better mechanisms to prevent unauthorized execution of programs.

Because they *are* affected, your question is moot.

Norton has been making Norton Antivirus for the Mac for over a decade now.

The Mac community being so small, it just doesn't make the news. Thus giving you the false impression.

because no one really tailors viruses to macs.......the ratio of mac to windows is roughly 1 to 10,000. Lets face it, even the hackers hate macs ; )

It is built on a much more secure foundation then Windows (which had networking and multiuser access tacked on as an afterthought), and since it has a smaller user base it is less of a target.
