It seems like the white kids today are all trying to act ghetto, black and fabulous. They listen to music about gangs, drugs, and sex that has nothing to do with the pristine life they enjoy. On the other hand, wealthy, suburban black kids don't act like that. They have good grades in school, are helpful in the community, and don't try to emulate the Ghetto lifestyle. Why is there this cultural divide in suburban teenage America?

First off, this question is extremely racist. There are rich black children acting "ghetto", and there are rich white kids who aren't. You are making racist generalizations on both sides, that rich black kids never act like that, and that all rich white kids do.

It's a result of pop culture, and leave it at that. Think about the most popular music right now, compared to the 80s or early 90s. It's all rappers, so of course teenagers will want to conform to this. And it's also racist of you to assume that these children are acting poor. If you look at the "ghetto" lifestyle portrayed in the music and movie industry, its all about expensive cars, gold grills, obnoxious jewelry, etc. The baggy large clothes and accessories that you see on kids these days are the only aspects of this lifestyle that kids can effectively emulate, and it is just you who is interpreting this as "poor".

Kids do what kids think is cool. They will grow out of it. Being Black is not sagging jean and slang. Black is a race of people. Black really do not have a culture. We are trying to build a culture from scratch. Blacks will grow out of this nonsense one generation from now. Blacks are well off in that neighborhood due to the fact that what many Blacks are working hard to better their situation and provide nice thing for there kids and when we get there we will not take advantage of it. Blacks no what its really like to be poor and the white kids thinks its cool. History is powerful when you read between the lines.

Ghetto doesn't belong to any race or class. Anyone can be ghetto, Asians, Whites, Latinos and Blacks.

70% of the people who buy rap music are White kids.

Have you ever seen "My Sweet Sixteen" on MTV? It's the opposite. Those wealthy black teens seem to act ghetto and the wealthy white teens seem to act upper glass, but they all act like SPOILED BRATS. It's all about the person, I think. I don't believe anyone should be grouped together, there are always exceptions to the rules.

To answer you question... maybe because they like that style. Maybe they wish more adventure in their life and they feel the "ghetto" lifestyle you speak of is the way to get that adventure.

it is an element, little ones have stages of all types. interior the 50s it grew to become into reducing the belt loops from the pants, interior the 60s it grew to become into the Beatnik element, interior the 70s it grew to become into curler skates, interior the 80s whilst i grew to become right into a teenager it grew to become into the great hair and Madonna clothing, and so on and so on. those days, hip-hop and rap custom has entered the mainstream media, and a great form of youngsters think of it is cool, regardless of their race. Hell, i've got seen Asians who act and communicate ghetto. I HOPE they finally develop out of it, 'reason it is low-foreheadand won't exchange into them in the event that they warfare landing a company profession. no longer each physique is company certain, yet for people who're, i'm hoping they develop out of the hippity hoppity area for their sake.

Have you noticed that on this forum white people in the USA are bland, colorless, privileged, racist, without any culture and on and on? Non-Whites are hip and cool and have amazing cultures. That's what they hear, so they try to be something else, including listening to Rap.

I think white teens that don't come from such a lifestyle feel that they are "living outside their box" as far as what's expected of them from their upbringing and/or parents. They sense that it is a thrill, dangerous, exciting and appealing to the "cool" crowd.

They think it gives them an outlet from the normal cookie-cutter lifestyle.....

just a guess!

It's kind of like Marie Antoinette at Le Petit Trianon - pretending to be a little shepherdess on a fairy-tale farm.

I think it just showcases the kids' naivete and racism.

I believe the White kids who listen to rap...are only listening to it because they want to know about Black people...when really all they have to do is step out of their little white box.

Are White parents teaching their kids that rap music is what Black people are? I mean...it seems someone would have common sense to know that if Cameron Diaz acts like a whore on Charlie's Angels that doesn't mean she's a whore in real life.

I don't get some people.
