More years to discover what bugs them and build up reasons not to suffer fools gladly. Reduced attention span.

Petty? When was the last time you heard a Senior talking about the star d'jour? When was the last time you heard a Senior talking about the latest designer's clothes? When was the last time you heard a Senior talking about their best friend in an unflattering way? When was the last time you heard a Senior talking about her/his latest conquest? I find that Seniors cut through the crap and get down to the business at hand. They don't pussyfoot around an issue, and in general, they say things in a kind manner, even criticisms sound nice when Seniors are pushed to the wall. Petty? Again, I think you are viewing the effects of Altzheimers, NOT age. Altzheimers causes people, regardless of age, to lose their mental capacities in stages...short term memory goes, then longer term memory...and in the journey, many become childish along the way. This is a disease, not an age! 1 out of 3 will come down with this disease if they live long enough.

I don't think Seniors are more petty than younger people. If anything, I think they are about the same or perhaps a little less petty. I know I don't let as many insignificant things get to me as I did when I was younger. Like sullen store clerks, people not doing their job, lazy people, whiners. Some of the things I'm still petty about is poor grammar, abysmal ignorance in people who have the capability to know better, illegal aliens, terrorist, people who bad-mouth the U.S.A. and people who bad-mouth the president no matter who he/she is.

Your question probably explains why some appear petty to you. Your other questions and answers on YQA Seniors are the epitome of pettiness.
As for senior citizens, we're about the same as every other age group in that regard. Some of us resemble you in a lot of ways, while others are less so.

Oh my no....younger folks are MUCH more competitive...just review pages on YA! This is the one site where folks can discuss and not be at each others throats to be 'the best' and win at all odds.
Fashion advertising, most auto advertising, most advertising period is targeted toward younger folks, because they will compete, be jealous of others and generally petty...because they 'think' it's important. Seniors have lived long enough to know...it's not.

As a 'senior citizen' I enjoy the company of younger people. I like to listen to their opinions (which I sometimes disagree with). I was once their age and my parents disagreed with a lot of what I did. I tried to understand my children when they were growing up and not judge them on what they wore or what music they listened to. I must admit I enjoy the music they like and I read the same sort of books they read. (Perhaps I was born too early!)

No. Why? Um, because this is a ridiculous generalization? If anything, people who lived through the Great Depression tend to be less petty.
