Wikipedia? Anybody read the article that discovered that governement intelligence agencies have been going on to wikipedia and modifying entries in order to make themselvs look good (for example, the entries regarding Halliburton, Bush Jr, Iraq, and Saddam). Does anyone else see the inherent problem in this or is this another right of privacy we can sacrifice in the name "security"?
oh yea, forgot to mention that they used the work of a 25 yr old college kid to continuosly scan the entries and find out exactly where they originated from (and i thought it was all annoymous)

fox broadcasting has also been cited as tampering with wiki. i use wiki for a quick general reference but never depend on it for important information.
anyway, NSA has for years been messing with information sources. propaganda, plain and simple.

Why is this so surprising? It is how these agencies work. It is what they do. It is their function. Do you really think they only act on foreigners or people that look like terrorists, or people that you might think need to be watched?
They are covert organisations who engage in covert actions. They don't care about your rights or your opinions.
They are organisations who's purpose is to be used by successive governments to keep things from you so they can act in ways that, if you knew what they were really up to, would outrage you.
They don't get away with as much as they used to but they are still very powerful and very secret organisations.
And BTW, wikipedia is, and always has been, one of the most unreliable sources for information on the net purely and simply because anyone can go in a alter anything at any time.

When will the USA return to the most covered up representatives of the CIA and FBI agents like Christian religious Tell-lie-evangelists Billy Graham, Oral Roberts, Benny Hinn etc to infiltrate other Nations with their smoke screen religious crusades to spy in and out on these Nations. If Jesus Christ was American reborn would he be a CIA or FBI agent like his ambassadors Billy Graham etc.?

How I read the article was that the hacker could trace where certain amendments and edits came from via ISPN. Some changes were made by the FBI, CIA, BBC and the Vatican amongst others.
Not totally surprised but it was good to read about!

No, Wiki is not anonymous -- most changes are tracked, and it's fairly trivial to track IP addresses.
And I've seen some legal articles, specifically dealing with separation of powers arguments, suddenly change to look like they've been written by the White House Counsel's office of propoganda -- including entries on executive powers and certain federal statutes limiting them.
So, either someone in the govt is trying to score points, or someone (or a few someone's) out there are secretly studying constitutional law and uploading parts of their thesis for unitary executive power.

I don't feel anything different than I do about the loopy leftys using mass entries on Wikipedia to denegrate the President. It's all disengenuous, and it makes Wikipedia worthless as a research tool; ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS.
