I would be tempted to try a repair reinstall. Load the disk for your genuine copy, set the computer to boot from the disk. When you get the options menu choose 'To setup Windows XP now press Enter'. The program will then find your existing (fake) Windows then you press R to repair it.

A repair re-install should leave your files and programs intact, re-install Windows and give you the chance to enter your genuine product key.

Most of the time yes, Start windows first then insert the CD, it will prompt you to overwrite the previous windows but keep all your settings. The only drawback is if you have updated the installed (old) copy then windows may give an error message that the current version is newer than the version you want to install. Usually if you get this message then it will not let you continue.

To be safe back up any files you what to keep before attempting.

The only difference between genuine and non-genuine copies is the product key. So you won't have to reinstall your system, you'll only have to change your product key.

I haven't done much research into this, but you should be able to use something like this:

its possible but risk. better take backup your data then format & reinstall your genuine XP Home it is good.

uh... non-genuine means ILLEGAL! delete it, and install the Genuine one.
