For short stories O Henry or Mark Twain. For novels Mark Twain. I think these two may have been banished from schools due to political correctness run amuck. In Huckleberry Finn what would a uneducated white boy in the 1800's call his friend Jim if not N..... Jim . I got the feeling that Twain was sympathetic to the plight of blacks. O henry writing before and after 1900 was prejudiced against everyone except WASPS. All the latin men were short, fat and stupid. The latin women were mostly beautiful. The one story with an Italian male trying to date an Irish girl would offend many Italians. Although I am Italian it bothers me not at all. They are great stories, all with a surprise ending. Poems: Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening. by Robert Frost. Or the Raven by forgot his name. Mysteries : Sherlock Holmes Short stories or 4 short novels by Aurther Conan Doyle.
