superstitions... [easy points!]?

if you kno of any superstitions, especially weird, random ones, let me know! :]

This are some superstitions from Romania(my home country)
If you brush your hair and your brush falls down,you'll be disappointed
If you polish your nails and you look at them often,somebody's speaking about you
If you'll change your bed sheets on Friday,you'll have nightmares
Don't whistle at night,after the sun goes down cause you can call evil spirits
Don't point at the moon at night cause you'll loose your fingers
You're not supposed to get out of the church before the coffin cause someone in your family is going to die!
I'm not a superstitious person but I find them interesting and some even funny!

An acorn should be carried to bring luck and ensure a long life.

An acorn at the window will keep lightning out


Amber beads, worn as a necklace, can protect against illness or cure colds.

Seeing an ambulance is very unlucky unless you pinch your nose or hold your breath until you see a black or a brown dog.

Think of five or six names of boys or girls you might marry, As you twist the stem of an apple, recite the names until the stem comes off. You will marry the person whose name you were saying when the stem fell off.

If you cut an apple in half and count how many seeds are inside, you will also know how many children you will have.


To predict the sex of a baby: Suspend a wedding band held by a piece of thread over the palm of the pregnant girl. If the ring swings in an oval or circular motion the baby will be a girl. If the ring swings in a straight line the baby will be a boy.


Spit on a new bat before using it for the first time to make it lucky

It's bad luck to put a hat on a bed.

If you make a bedspread, or a quilt, be sure to finish it or marriage will never come to you

Placing a bed facing north and south brings misfortune.

You must get out of bed on the same side that you get in or you will have bad luck.

When making the bed, don't interrupt your work, or you will spend a restless night in it.

i am a belgian man staying in Togo, Africa. I just heard that certain magicians make money rain from the roof of their hut. Someone else told me i should not believe this : it is a hoax, once you put the money in your pocket it turns into plain paper again. This is even more skilful i think. I myself am a total unbeliever in any nonsense.

They all are weird, but some are black cats, and breaking a mirror, and walking under ladders are considered bad luck. Throwing salt over your shoulder, and carrying a rabbit's foot for good luck.

If you look at someone who is handicapped while you're pregnant ...your baby will be born with the same handicap.

Don't hold a baby while you have your period, because the baby will get cramps.(This one actually seems to hold some merit, but it really threw me for a loop the first time I heard it.)
