Because Cricket is playing by only 12 or maximum 16 teams in the world. But in Olympic games minimum 20 countries required to play. and also olympic games in Paris they dont like Cricket.

a normal odi takes nearly 7 to 8 hours
in olympics there would probably be atleast 50 teams participating it is highly impossible to complete the tournament within the short period of time close to 20 days
this is why cricket is not in the olympics
with the new 20-20 version of the game it take close to 3 hours which might it make it possible to be played in olympics after a few years

I think it was the games in paris (1900ish), there were 2 teams England, France. England won, and Cricket has never been back in the games. They tried in Sydney, but it was axed. Twenty20 Cricket might have a fighting chance if London gets the games in 2012, I think it has mainly to do with the length of matches, and it not fitting into the tight Olympic schedual, so Twenty20 might work. Winter Olympics got Curling, so who knows what can happen.

Because the current form of the game takes long, needs a
larger field and NOT many countries play this game.
But it used to be part of Olympics in early 1900s, due to the
Brit influences and it was stripped later on.

Now with the 20/20 being played, there will be some sort of
interests among the playing countries.

Blame ICC, and it is their fault for not spreading the game
in other countries.

well with 20-20, cricket might come into the olympics now. they axed baseball and all from the olympics too, but a 2020 game takes as long as a baseball game or as long as football game (including halftime). so the future is bright

Because it takes a day to finish a single match . So it takes very long to play every single team to every single team. That's why cricket is not one of the olympic games .

For example : I f you take football it takes only one and a half hour to play a single match .
