(17x) (3x - 5) + 2 (3x - 5)
51 x ² - 85 x + 6 x - 10
51 x ² - 79 x - 10

You have to cross multiply, basically times each of the numbers in the first bracket by each of the numbers in the second.

Step 1: Multiply 17x by 3x, which becomes 51x²

Step 2:Multiply 17x by -5, which becomes -85x

Step 3: Multiply 2 by 3x, which becomes 6x

Step 4: Multiply 2 by -5, which becomes -10

Step 5: This gives you; 51x² - 85x + 6x -10
simplifying gives; 51x²-79x-10

I think this is right, my gsce maths was 5 years ago! but i did get A*!

first take the first term in the first bracket and multiply it with each of the two terms in the second bracket...
17x X 3x - 17x X 5 = 51x^2
and then do the same with the second term in the first bracket...
2 X 3x - 2 X 5 = 6x - 10
so you get (i think)..
51x^2 - 85x + 6x - 10
= 51x^2 - 79x - 10
hope that helped

Any expression of the form (a+b)(c+d) can be simplified to:
ac + ad + bc +bd
so (17x + 2)(3x-5) gives
51x^2 - 85x + 6x -10
collecting the terms in x then gives
51x^2 -79x -10

You simplify this by FOILing it
F= multiply the First terms
O=multiply the Outside terms
I=multiply the Inside terms
L=multiply the Last terms

(17x+2)(3x-5)
51x^2 -85x +6x -10
51x^2-79x -10
And that's all there is to it. Good luck!

FOIL method - First, Outer, Inner, Last
First: 17x * 3x = 51x^2
Outer: 17x * -5 = -85x
Inner: 2 * 3x = 6x
Last: 2 * -5 = -10

Put these all together to get 51x^ -85x + 6x -10, which simplifies to
51x^ -79x -10

The simplest way to explain it is to multiply 17x + 2 by 3x and then multiply it by -5 and sdd them up.

(17x + 2) multiplied by 3x = 51x² + 6x

(17x + 2) multiplied by -5 = -85X - 10

Add the two answers up = 51x² - 79x - 10

Remember the term FOIL (first, outside, inside, last).
You have to multiply the terms in that order.

(17x * 3x) + (17x * -5) + (2 * 3x) + (2 * -5)

Then simplify...

(51x^2)+(-85x)+(6x)+(-10)

Then simplify again...

51x^2 -79x -10 That's your answer.

there are many ways to do this.
a simple way to remember is the FOIL method.

this means that you multiply the
First numbers in each bracket
Outer numbers in each bracket
Inner numbers in each bracket
Last numbers in each bracket

this means that you would do
(17x)x(3x)=51x^2
(17x)x(-5)=-85x
(+2)x(3x)=6x
(+2)x(-5)=-10

you then put these all into one
51x^2-85x+6x-10

this can be simplified to
51x^2-79x-10=(17x + 2)(3x − 5)

^2 means squared.

i hope i helped

Multiply out:
17x x 3x = 51x^2
2 x 3x = 6 x
17x x -5 = -85x
2 x -5 = -10
add them all up: 51x^2 -79x -10
