I mean... Where did it go? It was all the news 30 years ago...
How can something that so many scientists swore was legit just up and vanish? Did it fall out of vogue to believe in it?

Or maybe... Just maybe.... Did the scientific and political supporters of that "fact" just ride that money horse till it croaked?

Could it be that they simply hitched a ride on a different money horse called Global Warming?

Mr Gore... You're too fat to be a jockey.

Golden- Just Google "Global Cooling"
You will find many articles on the subject from the NY Times to 1975 Newsday magazines.
You being over 30 and not reading about it does not mean that it was not there. Perhaps you were busy playing Pong all day.

Damn Moose belch to much.
A grown moose belches over 100 Kg of methane a year. This has the equivalent effect of 2100 Kg of CO2 (More than a flight halfway around the world).
It’s true - had to laugh when I heard this one. Even our best conspiracy theorists couldn’t come up with this one.

I don't remember hearing anything about "global cooling" but I just did a search and found that about 30 years ago there was a small group of scientists that predicted that the earth was actually cooling and this was based on some short term observations in changes to climate patterns in Europe.
Since then much more detailed and technologically advanced studies have been undertaken by scientists all over the world. The overwhelming consensus of scientific opinion is that the earth's weather patterns are changing at a very alarming rate and that this is mostly caused by human activity. There are a handful of detractors who do not agree with the research conclusions but they are in the minority.

The thing with science is that it NEVER says it is infallible and it ALWAYS tests and re-tests hypotheses. This seems to escape some people's notice and what is actually a scientific theory is touted as fact. Scientific theory is just that but it is also backed by extensive and methodical research and study. It is the breadth of consensus between scientists all across the world that gives credibility to the theory.

Over the past 30 years almost all the reliable research that has been undertaken in this field has confirmed the fact that the earth's weather and climate is rapidly changing, that the effect is a general warming of the planet that could have disastrous effects if left unchecked, The general consensus of opinion is that this unnaturally rapid change is most likely attributable to the activity of human beings.

There was never any scientific consensus of 'global cooling"--20 years ago or any other time.

When scientists first began to have the tools to really study global climate--30-40 years ago, they advanced a number of possibilities--including, quite reasonably--that the earth might get cooler or warmer in the future.. But it was never more than speculation about what might happen--and was termed such.

The "literature" the skeptics like to cite is simply some popular science articles in magazines like TIME and NEWSWEEK that ran with headlines like "Will there be another Ice Age?" That's the sum total of the "scientists all talking about global cooling" these nitwits keep yapping about. All they do is show they don't evenknow the difference between aspeculative hypothesis and established science--or between a popular science article and scientific papers in professional journals.

What happened was 30 additional years of research -- leading scientist to realize that there was more going on.

We've learned a lot about some other things in the past 30 years as well....

It should prove to all of us that when politicians get involved on any issue and demand we listen, that there is always another side to the story. If Al Gore really believed in the Global Warming idea, why is it that he does not lead by example ? Does anyone know how much income has been generated by Al Gore since his book and lecture circuit has come into play ?

Global Cooling was the product of a few blowhards trying to sell some books that the media latched onto. There was never a general consensus among scientists about it.

Global warming, on the other hand,

Ahhh screw it. you're just going to move on to your next Limbaugh talking point.

excuse me. i've heard this story before, it made no sense to me then, nor does it now. show me some documents.

i'm well over thirty, and i certainly don't remember such a story being "all the news." what i do remember from thirty years ago is reading the findings of a world class team of scientists hired by the "Big Ten" industrialists to study future trends and their findings were global warming. not cooling. they listed just the causes that we now see happening. bigger cities with more industry and more automobiles creating incredible amounts of heat. the desertification of forests and farmland and the resultant heat; the diminished rainfall in once verdant areas. nothing about global cooling.

show me.

They were paid to change their minds, now they all claim global warming. Anything to get the feds to pay for their research. God forbid they get real jobs.
