After watching the movie with Robin Williams and Kurt Russell in it, with his buddies, he must have been inspired. Some people do not get their Doctorates until later in life. Perhaps this is a stipulation. He at least meets the physical standard for participation and the news article says he has money; so why not? Its not like high school where you can't go back. If you have the time, money and physical attributes...go for it.
Besides....it's a third rate community college. Had he gone to Texas A&M and got into the fight he had gotten into in his original inception; he might not have been able to return. The first "pile up" he gets into and twists an ankle he'll be done anyway.

Mike Flynt still has a 12 months of eligibility left. He was once kicked off his group after his junior yr for coming into a fight. On the grounds that he was a captain and a leader, he says, it's eaten at him for years that he let the workforce down. By the way, his time within the forty is 5 flat. I would settle for that. Excellent good fortune to him.

he could've gotten hurt and left college/athletics early.

therefore, he has eligibility still left, so he can participate in athletics, legally speaking.

a 40-yr old mom an cross country for some team a couple years ago. she left due to a pregnancy, returned 20 years later.

I think it's great! Just because he is 59 doesn't mean anything, he's no doubt, in better shape than some of the young ones playing!

like others have said, he still has his senior year of eligibility, because he got kicked off the team (and school i think) before his senior season started. I think it's crazy, and he could get hurt, but it looks like he's kept himself in top physical condition. So good luck to him!
