Sure, if it's what she wanted and had earned. What makes the difference on gender? FEMALES like playing systems too! ( I LOVED playing Mario Kart with my sons! They quit playing me cause I kept beating them!)

I can understand the boy/girl analogy. Let's face it, not too many chics at the World of Warcraft convention is there? However, I would look at the cost versus the benefits. Would she get $600 worth of entertainment out of it? If so, and it's within your budget then by all means buy one. Then again, that system will probably be down to $400 next year when the sales drop.

What kind of comment is that? You would for a boy but not a girl? Do you think it isn't ok for a girl to play a video game? Well Ive been playing games since I can remember and my parents bought me my first Xbox and ps2 my brother got me a DS and I won a Xbox 360.... So girls enjoy gaming JUST as much as any boy. 600 dollars is alot of money though, but it seems you have it since you'd buy it for a boy. So yeah I would buy it for my daughter if she really wanted it.

My oldest daughter came to me asking for a video game system, the first Nintendo!! I have been playing for years, old time games like the first Zelda, Tetris, Mario, etc. I mean its something the whole family can play. I still play Animal Crossing on my game cube and Club House on my Nintendo DS ;-) p.s. If nothing else she will develop great eye/hand coordination and become a good driver. Just keep her away from Grand Theft Auto.. bleh!

Yes!, Video games are a great source of education for example: MMO's such as WoW, GW, FFXI etc etc they teach math because o've the simple Money system which helps things such as adding/Subtracting/Dividing/Multiplying: as well as showing simple social skills that alot of people dont know. Such as speaking right aka not swearing at ppl older etc. And it also is a proven study that ppl who play video-games are alot more inteligent then others.
& You shouldnt be sexest, if a guy wants to shop whoopty-doo Its not like the world is going to end. Guys should be able to do what girls do & Vice versa

If they came out with like a "Sims" type video game where the girl has to try to keep her man happy by keeping the dishes clean and him fed, all while trying to keep her kids happy... maybe. Otherwise, most of the games out there involve weilding guns or playing football. Until that happens, my daughter will have a tea set, baby doll, and a "My Sweet Kitchen" set.

Don't want her getting butch, you know.

well 600 dollars is waay too much for a vid system so i probably wouldnt want to buy it for either, but last year i got a playstation 2 for 110 dollars so i could play dance dance revolution with my sister (not your stereotypical fighting videogame, i bought it to exercise by dancing and lose weight). video games arent always aggressive games, but if she does want to buy a violent one, i would probably have to read some reviews on the game to make sure it doesnt encourage violence or other mature content.

i coulnt see spending 600 bucks on a video game for any damn kid! i couldnt even see it for myself. not cos i'm broke or cheap, but that's too much damn money for a game. now watch, months later the prices will drop, and ppl will feel real stupid for wasting all that money in the first place.

and i think you're showing favoritism. a boy can get spoiled, but not a girl? that's unfair and unloving. i know girls that are way better in video games than some guys! and they barely play compared to the dudes. you should change your attitude about girls or you'll never have a decent relationship with them.
