She wasn't trying to be insensitive, I'm sure. It's probably just been in the news alot, and it's the first thing that came to mind.
Don't be so hard on her.

People deal with things differently.
Some people deal with stress and other things using humour.
Some people are insensitive, maybe because they aren't effected by the event, they don't realise the full impact of it.
Some people just don't seem to realise that there's a line you don't cross.
Some people dislike others and therefore react negatively to whatever may be said by that person.
And some people are just too sensitive, and get offended too easily.
There are many reasons why your collegue may of made the joke, and many reasons why you may of been offended.
Talk to them about it and make clear lines.

Get over yourself. She made a stupid joke. Its getting to be a pain when we cant even make stupid jokes now without someone somewhere being offended. Are we gonna get to the stage where we wont even speak cos there just might be somone like you around to hear?
I've been in a real hurricane btw but even I would have seen her attempt at humour. Grow up!

I was in London once on a windy day, when a gust of wind blew the skirt of a young Cockney woman over her head. She was not wearing any panties, and quite embarassedly I said, "A bit airy, isn't it?"
She bellowed, "Well, wot the 'ell did you expect? Feathers?"

It's not hurricane dean. Dean is near the Yucatan and headed for Texas as far as I know.

My goodness its just a joke! get over it!
The trouble with PC types is they have no laughter in their life its either all emotional outbursts or mocking but no real laughter.
