In the name of certainties, under its illusionary god, people have had an almost medieval belief in the destruction of other people’s ways and lives. Nations and individuals have come to regard themselves as gods. This certainty, whether its name is religion, imperialism, ideology, class, caste, race, or sex has been the great undoing of our measureless heritage, and has narrowed the vastness of human possibility and marvellous variety.

Will the collapse of towers of certainty signify the triumph of TIME over the insane arrogance of human certainties?

I think the word you're looking for is ABSOLUTE rather than certainty: the belief in an absolute tenet. It is true that the belief that your ideas are set in stone can create problems; but only if you do not maintain your respect for others. Just because I believe I am right about certain things does not mean that I have to treat others who believe differently like morons.

Some people like to throw around the word INTOLERANCE. However, there are certainly some things about which we should be intolerant - child abuse leaps to mind. So, the absolute is that there is no absolute.
