It's not really going to matter unless you have very expensive electricity.
Modern computers if built using quality components should be able to last a decade running constantly so if you want to leave it one that'd be fine.
Though OTOH they do use less power in standby, hibernation or shutdown and if you can stand the wait (short with standby, a bit longer with hibernation and longer again if you shutdown though shutting down doesn't save any more power than hibernation) then why not (windows computers need a reboot every so often to clear up memory leaks although you should be able to get away with a couple of weeks with the latest Microsoft OS's (provided they don't get wormed)).
Although if you want to run something overnight turning the computer off isn't a good idea.
At the very least turn your monitor off when you're not using your computer.
From an environmental point of view the CO2 emissions are the fault of your government for not building nuclear power plants (or enough nuclear power plants) so don't worry about that.

Turning off your computer when not in use is necessary because:
1. it saves energy
2. your computer will last longer.
3. when you turn your computer on the next time, your computer will be "fresh". In other words, the memory is cleared.
4. less heat is produced
That's all i can think of for now. Continue to enjoy the benefits of conserving power!

there is not something incorrect with turning your computer on and rancid all of the time. Inless your are continuously doing it many times in a quick volume of time. in case you do think of it is happening bypass away your computer on in it incredibly is standby function ( it provide you the alternative for standby once you change it off counting on what working gadget you're applying). to hurry up your computer attempt downloading '' AdAware SE'' this software scans your computer for spyware and undercover agent ware and removes it type your computer. those are records that build up truthfully and might dramatically decelerate your computer if there is diverse it. don't be stunned if the 1st time you test you get a great form.

Doesn't hurt a thing. In fact will let unit cool down. Problem with leaving it on is power surges. They can really mess up a system. Have not found any advantage to Hibernate. Startup may be a few seconds faster, but not enough to notice.

In my opinion no, unless you are expecting a lightning storm. Then you should turn it off , unplug it and unplug any phone line going to it..
The other exception reboot it if it gets slow or hangs up or if your room is extremely hot..
You can turn your monitor off to save power..
Why? Because electronics can be damaged by on and off power changes and you have to wait for it to boot up.
