My dad says that upgrading to a newer graphics card every time results in a kick in the butt. Do you think he's right and how come he knows how to use computers?

YES, he is probably right. Especially that part of the butt where his wallet also happens to be. A new graphics card that could decently play current games is pretty expensive. Then you need to support it with a bigger power supply. Then it gets bottlenecked by your old processor so you end up upgrading processor as well. Then new games come out that are no longer supported by your graphics card. The cycle never stops until you burn a hole in Dad's wallet.

I would have to agree with him. 90% of the users today could use a model 5 or 6 years old if the OS would support it. Problem is the developers of software today don't know how to write code and think that every machine has the latest and greatest. It is a vicious circle between writers and makers sucking in users that put up with it.

who cares what your dad says, go and research it on google and forums and show him the evidence

at least know what you are getting with different models, and only upgrade if you actually need to

Appreciate that your dad is trying.

Newer stuff are usually better ones, from my experience.

Good luck!
